okay so we've got this cleaned out now you saw say there's no deposit it's nothing left here now with the pores there's nothing really that you have to do because the balls don't actually do anything the seals actually hold the piston in place so it's not something you have to worry about really you can get them honed and you can buy the little holders which don't take long but it doesn't actually achieve that much it just makes it a little bit shiny and pretty so what we do now the next stage would be cleaning the piston now we're going to use new Pistons because as I say these ones here chromes come away they're destroyed they'll never work properly ever again but just if you were gonna clean the Pistons simple we want those just get yourself a rag down lay it out get some chrome cleaner now first off obviously you've cleaned these with brake cleaner which takes all the time coming that generally does most of the work Lucy to get the poser dip it in and like say just rub backwards and forwards around generally this will clean them up as best as possible now another thing I do know people who have tried removing pistons with and they've stuck grips on them that's one of the quickest way to destroy your pistons you always want to pump them out as I showed you earlier don't use grips on them I said that that's the end of them and you know they're quite expensive they're about the 40 bucks to piss them so you really don't want to be doing that again this is piston though I wouldn't be happy with putting in but you can actually say you see how it's bringing it out okay so that's just how you clean the Pistons up the simple way flat surface just scrub them in that way again give them a little spray with brake cleaner make sure you take any residue off okay so we'll put that aside and then what we have here is just try that's caught with your components in take a card out got some details here and some notes and messages what would recommend is cutting this card into because it just gives you a really nice surface you know it's clean you know you know once you've actually put the red rubber grease on them everything will want to stick to it okay excellent - click - very clean surfaces now when you do the sales you want to do it all in all in one pet though you really don't want to coat these it's just what you're trying to put a film so you see how just a little tip along here put one your fingers and you're just gonna feed press your sale all surfaces see thing top and bottom on both sides you're just running it round you don't want anything don't need globs on it really only need a little bit okay see let me see well it's nice having these nice clean surfaces here and that were your finger in both sides this round you see how we're doing that okay just one round just but thin-film all across them what the red rubber grease does is now don't ever confuse this with any other grease this is special it is the only thing that works fine with brake fluid and it works fine and it's good for the rubber stops the rubber from aging and stopped it from hardening it sort of cracking also provides that initial lubrication so you don't get like a dry burn where you're trying to put the Pistons in dry you'd never do that I mean if you haven't got any of this use brake fluid just dip them in brake fluid same procedure make sure you get all the sides my somewhere but you'll find that you'll get much better sitting yeah with the red rubber grease caliper back okay and we'll start with the pressure cell what you're trying to do is you just snip one side in and you do is gently get that one corner in and it's just feeding it in making sure it doesn't flip or twist or get knotted just run it round so I mean it's really once you've got a red rubber Gracie it just slides in there it makes a perfect you can you feel it go in now when you get these cereals if you you know if you're unsure for microwaving these you know they fit correctly there's there's no ifs and bust right now that one's got caught up see how it's got a slight little twist in it so that's not correct there we go okay perfect okay same procedure here with the glide seals just put me on top edge hold that in place and what you're doing is you're just feeding it around okay so you made sure no movement nothing protruding overly shouldn't be loosing there it needs to be the absolute perfect size as I say hum to make this caliper in what four different sizes they do 25.5 they do 27 millimeter to 30 millimeter and they do thirty two millimeter so don't know the history of the bike or you don't know the history of the part itself you bought it somewhere else you've got that little guide there to show you it's a 30 but these need to fit perfectly and you know it you know yeah that's perfect okay next stage pistons now I've got some standard Pistons there the usual kit will come with just your stock ones but as we're doing this I much prefer these which is the stainless steel ones this is a 3-1 16 want the stainless steel use this on oil rigs they use medical equipment race same thing we're gonna put a film all the way around the piston doesn't matter if you get too much access on this because the seals will just wipe any excess away we're gonna have to worry about the sides yeah don't worry about it boss them directly okay so and now what's quite important is that we keep these straight as possible so today we're gonna get these Pistons it's very important that we get these really nice and straight if you haven't got them straight there won't go in properly so I get them in and you'll find there's a couple of stages for us to go around the guide seal then the next one will be the pressure seal there we go you feel it when it's nice and straight see and that just goes in look a little bit pressure in you can just feel it on the second one you know as soon as as soon as it goes all the way around they just glide in there lovely okeydoke right the next thing that we have here's again slide sharp now you can sort of see where I've got this cleaned up we've also got this intersection now all cleaned up make sure that the ring is clear you haven't got anything in the ring because this is where the boots sit so that's gonna run through and what we're gonna do say is we get that copper grease I will just insert that directly in okay that ring now that we have it like this we should get that ring into its position by laughs you see okay and then what we'll do is we didn't just push this forward okay be careful it doesn't do that what you don't want to happen to push okay that goes round put a cop grease in that doesn't want to do any harm at all in fact it'll do some good but if you feel this now perfectly balanced nice movement and that's what you need is really important with this caliper okay so just to summarize what we've done now and I say we've got the pins prepped with the copper slip and what we want to do is also make sure your pads are all the way in Maci's easier makes it a lot less likely to trap air so you want to make sure those pistons are all the way in turn have them half out it makes it a lot easier to get them bled when they're pushed all the way in we'll just look at this state of these seals and all of the old stuff you can see why the brakes were bad in the first place these were two pressure seals and you can see all of the aluminum oxide that's built up push it and you can you feel them you know you're worried that they might actually crack and here if you look at the guide seals these are even worse I mean some of these are actually torn up in places yeah again aluminum oxide and what's been tearing them up are these Pistons that all the Chrome's just come away I'm not sure how clearly you can see this on the camera but you can just see that the chrome was just flaked away on this faulty now the stainless steel Pistons that's never gonna happen again so I'm just gonna get set pads in here and then that will be job done
